Norman LeBeau, a native of Montreal, Quebec, competed on the men’s tennis team in 1982-1983 as an outstanding athlete in the UWF Tennis program. He became the first UWF tennis player ranked in NAIA Singles. Although his individual strengths did not go unnoticed, LeBeau helped put the program on the map after its origin when he partnered in doubles with David Freiman.

The duo won their first doubles match in 1982 when they defeated competitors from Santa Fe Community College, marking the first men’s tennis win for UWF. They would eventually win 48 matches (75 percent of their total played) in the early eighties. The pair also won the NAIA National Championship in Kansas City, MO and earned the NAIA Academic All-American honors in 1982 and 1983.
