Jill Burnett competed as an outstanding addition to the UWF women’s softball team from10299 1997-1998 as a top first base player and catcher.  In her two years on the softball team, she brought unforgettable talent to the program as she played as an All-GSC East performer and GSC East Most Valuable Player. In 1997, she led the GSC in batting (.464), hits (102), home runs (6), doubles (27), and runs batted in (75). Burnett ranked sixth in runs (37) and third in triples (5) for her career. Her 102 hits, 75 RBIs and 27 doubles are listed as GSC single-season records, leading to her being named GSC Softball Player of the Week.

Burnett led the Lady Argos to an 8-2 mark, including a -2 record and tournament championship at the UWF Lady Argo Classic where she hit .500 (15 for 30) with four doubles, a triple, a home run and 9 RBIs. In 1998, she led the GSC in hits (38), doubles (13) and RBIs (27). She ranked third in home runs (1), fourth in batting (.427) and fifth in runs (16). She competed as an outstanding player who contributed to the excellence of the UWF softball program.

1998:
Named the NCAA Division II All-South Region Tournament Team for her performance…Named the Gulf South Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player…Started in all 66 games played…Had the best batting average on the team .447…Hit 20 doubles, two triples, 19 homeruns and 79 RBI…Was two-for-two in stolen base attempts…Member of the All-GSC First Team…Two-time GSC Player of The Year…Member of the All-GSC Tournament Team.

1997: Displayed remarkable exhibition of leadership at the plate last season…Her accomplishments are directly related to the type of individual she represents…Her work ethic and motivation to excel are a reflection of her character…She is a team player and very dedicated to the program and her teammates…Played in 65 games and had 64 starts for the season…Appeared at bat 220 times…Totaled 37 runs, 75 BI, 27 doubles, five triples and six home runs adding to her batting average of .464…Slugging percentage of .714…Named GSC Player of The Year.

Manatee CC: Played two seasons under coach Susan Freeman…Won the Gold Seal Award and graduate with honors…Earned All-Conference honors her freshman and sophomore years.

High School: A two-sport athlete…Lettered in volleyball and softball for three years at Kathleen Senior High School under the instruction of her father and coach, Richard Burnett…This first baseman pitcher went to the FACA North-South State Games…Her high school batting average was .450.

Personal: Part of the West Florida Athletic Hall of Fame…Her name is scattered throughout the UWF record book…She is first in career batting average (.455) and slugging percentage (.768)…Her career home run total (25) is tired for fourth, and she is eighth in career runs batted in (154)…In 1997, Burnett set the single-season record for batting average (.464), on base percentage (.555) and doubles (27)….The following season in 1998, Burnett shattered the single season home run (19) and slugging percentage (.823) records. Jill received her bachelors degree in health, leisure and exercise science from UWF…Currently she serves the Polk County, Fla. Sheriff’s Office as a detective. Jill and her husband Harry Seymour have a son, Bo, and the couple is expecting their second child.
