UWF Athletics Hall of Fame
Greg Pron's senior season in 2011 is one of the strongest in UWF Athletics history. He set program records with 93 hits, 69 RBI, and 149 total bases in that season, and he found himself atop the school record books in career hits, stolen bases and times hit by pitch.
Â
A textbook example of a five-tool player, Pron also ranks in the top five in UWF history in batting average, doubles, and home runs, while earning a spot on the 2011 ABCA Gold Glove Team. He is one of just two UWF student-athletes to earn first team All-American honors from Daktronics and the NCBWA and is the only Argonaut to be named the South Region Player of the Year by each of those organizations.
Â
West Florida won 141 games over Pron's four-year career, helping lead the program to a pair of GSC regular season titles. His production continued through the postseason, as he earned spots on the 2011 NCAA Regional and Championships all-tournament teams, guiding UWF to its first baseball national championship.
Â
He was a three-time All-GSC performer, making him one of just four Argonauts with that distinction.
Â
He was taken by the New York Mets organization in the 42nd round of the 2011 MLB Draft and played in their system for three years after graduation. Pron now works as a software engineer at Mindtree in Gainesville, Florida.

IN HIS OWN WORDS
Most memorable moment: "Definitely winning the national championship in 2011. I think the thing that makes it even more memorable is that my freshman year we weren't very good and didn't have a lot of experience. But, the coaches believed in the core that we had and stuck with us, and it definitely paid off in the end
Â
"Being a student-athlete taught me to have a great work ethic, and that the good things in life don't come easy. Baseball tested my limits mentally and physically, and because of that it has made me a better person to this day
Â
"Baseball at UWF taught me so many things and helped me grow as a person. The memories I made and the time spent there were some of the best days of my life, and I just want to thank the coaches, my teammates, my family and friends for always being supportive of me. Without them, none of this would have been possible."
