From 1988 to 1990, Melissa “Missy” Cromer Blackmon proved to be an exceptional catcher. She holds eight UWF season records and two career records after one year. Blackmon played for ASA Major National Slow-Pitch Championship Tifton Tomboys. She also made All-American on the Lake City Community College National Slow-Pitch Championship team.

In 1988, she led the UWF team with 14 homeruns and 57 RBIs. In 1989, she made the NAIA Second Team All-American and led the team with 89 RBIs and 36 extra base hits. She was named All-National Tournament in 1989 and was a second time NAIA All-American Catcher recipient.
