UWF HALL OF FAME - CLASS OF 2012-13

One of the most decorated players in the history of UWF men’s golf, Warrick 10347earned national recognition as a three-time All-American including two first team selections over his career. During his senior season he was awarded the highest honor in the Gulf South Conference, the GSC Commissioner’s Trophy, which recognizes the top athlete across all sports based on athletic, academic and extracurricular success. He is still the only UWF golfer to earn the honor. Warrick also earned a spot on the GSC All-Decade Team.

In addition, Warrick was a two-time All-American Scholar and the 2003 NCAA Division II Commissioner’s Association Regional Scholar Athlete of the Year. In that same year, he landed on the All-South Region Team and was the Pensacola Sports Association’s Amateur Athlete of the Year. During his junior season in 2002, Warrick was named the GSC Men’s Golf Player of the Year.

Warrick was a key contributor to 16 team titles during his four year tenure, but none were bigger than the final victory in 2001 which earned the program’s first NCAA Division II National Championship. He almost claimed the individual national championship as well after tying for first place, but fell in a sudden death playoff to finish runner-up. Warrick won two tournaments throughout his career including the 2002 GSC Championship and amassed 20 top-10 finishes.

Warrick also saw success outside of West Florida by achieving one of the top feats in amateur golf at the 2002 U.S. Open, where he was the low amateur on the infamous Bethpage Black course. Since graduating from UWF, Warrick has continued to play professionally.  He will also be caddying for a friend on the LPGA Tour in 2013.

Kevin and his wife Christal were married on March 31, 2012.  Christal is an Arkansas Razorback and the wedding was on the campus in Fayetteville.

UWF Athletics Hall of Fame Questionnaire: Kevin Warrick

1. What was your most memorable moment in UWF athletics?
My most memorable moment in UWF athletics came in the NCAA National 10348Championship in 2001.  We were down big after the first round and came back to win, defeating the three-time defending champions Florida Southern College.  I was tied for low medalist that week and lost in a playoff for individual honors.

2. Being a former student-athlete, how has it helped you in your life after college?
Being a student-athlete has been a big help in life after college.  I'd say the biggest thing you are forced to learn is time management.  Without proper time management you can't succeed in both the classroom and on the course.  I feel that Coach Fell driving that point home has stuck with me to this day.

3. Please list any other information that you would like to share.
I would like to thank my family for all the support they've given over the years.  This honor would not be possible without everything they sacrificed for me.  I also want to thank Coach Fell.  Coach has been there for me (as well as all of his players, present and past) with anything I have needed whether it is advice pertaining to golf, school or the ever dramatic personal life of a college person.  Lastly, I’d like to thank the University of West Florida, which will always hold a special place in my life as I grew so much in my time on campus.  I look forward to returning to Pensacola and am quite jealous of all the improvements being made on campus.
