Matthew Galloway was one of the most accomplished student-athletes to pass through the men's golf program at UWF, collecting multiple accolades for his performances on the course and in the classroom. He is one of six Argonauts all-time to be a three-time All-American, including a first team selection in 2007. In both 2007 and 2008 he was recognized as an All-America Scholar as well as a Gulf South Conference "Top Ten" winner, one of the most prestigious awards in the GSC based on athletic, academic and extracurricular success.

Matthew Galloway

The native of Tampa, Fla. capped his career with a national championship ring after playing a big role in UWF's 2008 NCAA Division II championship team. The two-time GSC Player of the Year holds the lowest career scoring average (72.78) of all Argonauts that competed all four seasons at UWF and the second-lowest average all-time. Galloway is also one of just two Argos to win an individual title every season he played, totaling four tournament victories.

In his post-UWF career, Galloway has been a caddie for two-time U.S. Open Champion Lee Janzen. He turned professional at the end of 2008 at the PGA TOUR Q-School, and he has been playing in mini-tours and qualifiers around the country. He returned to the mini-tour circuit full time in 2013, and he was also featured on Golf Channel’s popular “Big Break” reality competition series that same year. Galloway is currently playing on PGA Tour Canada and caddying at Streamsong Resort in Bowling Green, Florida during the winter.

UWF Athletics Hall of Fame Questionnaire
1. What was your most memorable moment in UWF athletics?
The obvious answer is winning the 2008 national championship or winning other tournaments or accolades. But now reflecting on it, most of the memorable moments were the little funny moments between the team, Steve and myself throughout the years. The team we had in the 2007-08 season was a pretty special group. Outside of the talent on the golf course, we all had fun off the course and those little moments are the things that I’ll remember for a long time.

2. Being a former student-athlete, how has it helped you in your life after college?
It’s hard to list the ways, because there are so many. Time management is a big one. Being able to juggle class, practice, and the other things a student-athlete has to handle has easily transferred into daily life now. The habits you create in college have a pretty impactful effect on life out of school. There also so many other things that tie into golf that Coach Fell taught us. Steve and I always joke about how many times I’ve told him he was right about something he told us in college but it took me until I was out of school to realize it.

3. Please list any other information that you would like to share.
I want to thank three people. First my parents, for all they’ve sacrificed throughout the years to support me in golf. I’d also like to thank Coach Fell. Steve still motivates, coaches and encourages me to this day. More important than being a coach, Steve has always been a friend.

I also want to thank UWF for giving me the opportunity to play the game I love and to get an education at the same time. I will always cherish my time in Pensacola and at UWF.
