Perseverance. Teamwork. Leadership. All three are qualities that are useful as a student-athlete during college and in life after your playing days are over. Lindsay Nemanich utilized all three to perfection during her standout soccer career and has continued to hone them in the decade since graduating from UWF.

She was a four-year starter as a sweeper for head coach Joe Bartlinski over five seasons, including the hurricane-shortened 2004 campaign. During her time, the Houston native led UWF to four NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2006 Gulf South Conference championship.

After being named the 2006 GSC Player of the Year and second team All-America, she capped off her career with the GSC Commissioner’s Trophy as the outstanding female student-athlete in the league across all sponsored sports. She was also named to the league’s All-Decade team for the 2000s when that was unveiled in the summer of 2010.

Nemanich was twice selected to the All-South Region and All-GSC teams, in addition to being named to the GSC All-Academic squads in 2005 and 2006.

She lists her most memorable moments as a UWF student-athlete coming when the 18th-ranked Argonauts defeated #3 Christian Brothers, 1-0, at home during the 2003 season, snapping the Lady Bucs’ 29-game unbeaten streak.

She stayed in northwest Florida after graduation, landing a job at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola as a doctor of physical therapy.

How has being a student-athlete helped you in life after college?
“My entire life has been shaped by being a former student athlete. It taught me perseverance that exemplified itself in different ways in my life such as getting into a highly-competitive doctor of physical therapy program, landing my first job at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, and even buying my first home.

“Coach Bart taught us how to win with class which carried over into other athletic interests such as Crossfit and triathlons. The teamwork I learned on the field helped build solid relationships with family, friends, and coworkers. It also helped lay the foundation for a solid job performance.”

“My years of playing soccer at UWF under Coach Bartlinski are some of the most memorable years of my life and ones that I loved and will never forget.”
