Kristi Jernigan competed as an outstanding athlete on the UWF women’s basketball team from 1989 to 1993. She brought a series of awards and records to the program and proved to be an exceptional athlete. In 1990, she posted the best Field Goal Percentage (55%) and best Game Field Goal Percentage (93%). She had the most consecutive double figure games and most consecutive free throws (17) in 1992. She had a 52-game streak of consecutive double-figure scoring games. She was ranked fourth in rebounding (8.0/gm) and third in free throw percentage (.755.165/213). Also in 1992, she made the first score in the district with 24 points in a game, leading to the NAIA District 27/Southern States Conference. Jernigan became the only woman in district conference history to top the 2000 career points mark with her total career points at 2,104. She scored 40 points in a single game in 1992 and broke her own season scoring record of 587 points. She claimed nearly every UWF scoring record including most season points (696) in 1993. She received “Hardees Argo of the Week”  in 1993 and qualified for NAIA All-District 27 for four years. Later, Jernigan taught at King Middle School and coached girls’ volleyball.
