Cherebetiu proved to be one of the top competitors on the 1991 team. He was undefeated his last 9 matches against all ranked players. He defeated his opponents in 25 matches and only lost 8. In 1989 and 1990, he was named on the NAIA All-America Second Team Doubles and Second Team Singles. In 1991, he was named on the NAIA All-America First Team Singles and by 1992, made the NAIA All-America First Team Doubles, Second Team Singles and with partner Andrej Tonejc, won the NAIA National Champion Doubles.

Sorin Cherebetiu played exceptionally on the UWF Tennis team from 1989 to 1992. He played singles from number six to number one his senior year. In 1992, he received Athlete of the Year and made All-American doubles four years and singles one year (1989). He proved his outstanding talent in 1992 when he won the NAIA National Championship Doubles Tournament with partner Andrej Tonejc. He assisted coaching the UWF Tennis team from 1992-1993 and again from 1997-1999. Cherebetiu graduated in 1993 in Psychology and Communications and in 2000 worked on post graduate work in Sports Science. He is part of the Mexican Tennis Federation and worked at the University of West Georgia as the men’s and women’s coach.
