David Brandt competed as one of the most outstanding tennis players at UWF from 1986-1989. As a young tennis player, Brandt served as the 1985 Georgia High School Doubles Champion, later to be ranked #5 in Georgia and 16 in the south. In 1986, he maintained a 16-14 season record, 25-6 in 1987, 15-9 in 1988 and 22-6 in 1989. He was ranked #2 on the Wilson ITCA Team Roster in 1989 and named on the NAIA All-America Honorable Mention Singles Team in 1988 and the NAIA All-America Singles Team in 1987 and 1989. Brandt was also named on the NAIA All-America Doubles Team in 1987 and 1989.

Brandt partnered in doubles with Nick Lioce and they were ranked as the #1 Doubles team for much of 1986, 1987 and 1988. In 1986, they were both named in the NAIA Men’s Volvo Tennis/All American Singles and Doubles, and in 1987 they reached the NAIA National Doubles Semi-Finals. Brandt was listed as the ITA/NAIA Senior Player of the Year in 1989.
