A member of the 2012 national championship team, Monica Malavassi had one of the most decorated careers in program history. She earned a combined five all-region awards from the NSCAA and D2CCA, was a 3-time all-GSC honoree and an Honorable Mention All-America in 2010.
Â
In her three seasons she compiled 18 goals, 17 assists and collected three game-winning goals as UWF went 53-6-6, including 24-1-1 during the magical 2012 campaign.
Â
After graduating in December of 2012, the honors continued to come. She was named to the GSC Top Ten Award in June and a month later named the league’s nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award where she was a top-30 finalist out of more than 140 nominees across all divisions.
Â
She then returned to her native Costa Rica where she helped win a gold medal in women’s basketball at the 2013 Central America Games.
Â
Three years ago she was named to the GSC All-Decade Second Team for the 2010s and today she joins a group of 11 previous women’s soccer student-athletes and one team in the UWF Athletics Hall of Fame.
