UWF HALL OF FAME - CLASS OF 2012-13

Stephen Simmons was a model student-athlete for the UWF men’s soccer team, and in his four years he left his mark on and off the field.  Simmons arrived as a freshman in 2000, and in his four years the Argonauts reached double digit wins every season and won two Gulf South Conference championships.

Simmons was an impact player from the start, as he scored six goals as a freshman while playing limited minutes as a forward.  Simmons enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, scoring 16 goals in 20 games, which ranks seventh in school history.  The North Lauderdale, Fla. native led the Argonauts in scoring in his junior and senior seasons as well, totaling 44 goals in his career.  Simmons’ 44 goals rank fourth in school history and second behind only Keith Savage in the team’s NCAA history.

Simmons earned an all-region nod in 2002, and he was a two-time All-GSC first team pick.  Not only was he recognized for his on-field accomplishments, but Simmons was a two-time CoSIDA academic all-district team pick, the only player to win two such awards.  He was also a two-time UWF Scholar Athlete of the Year, and he earned three selections to the GSC All-Academic Team.

Simmons is currently a police officer in Broward County, Fla.  He is married to Samantha and has four children: daughter Victoria (13), son Julius (6), daughter Shiloh (3) and daughter Selah (8 months). 10349
